Henadz Borys is a 55-year-old veteran of the war in Afghanistan. He was arrested by armed riot police officers on August 9, 2022, in Baranavičy, Brest region.

On August 10, 2022, he was fined 800 Belarusian rubles (approx. $272) for liking information from an extremist website under Article 19.11 of the Code of Administrative Offenses ('Production, distribution and (or) storage of extremist materials').

Henadz Borys was accused of insulting Aliaksandr Lukashenka under Part 1 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code ('Contempt of the President of Belarus') and of 'desecrating the state symbols' under Article 370. He was in custody in Baranavičy, pending trial.

On December 16, 2022, the Baranavičy District and City Court issued a verdict. Judge Ina Paulouskaya tried the case, with Lyshyk as the prosecutor.

The prosecution requested that Henadz Borys be confined to an open-type penal facility for three years and six months.

The court reduced this term by six months and sentenced Henadz Borys to three years confinement in an open-type penal facility. He was released from custody in the courtroom.

Since February 14, 2023, he he has been serving his sentence in open-type penal facility #43 in Mahilioŭ.
