Cases: The round dance case

Maksim Zharau is a defendant in the "round dance case" initiated after the events of September 13, 2020, in Brest (when protesters took to the roadway and were dispersed by a water cannon).

The charges against him were brought under Article 342 of the Criminal Code ('Group actions grossly disrupting public order').

On February 25, 2021, the Lieninski District Court of Brest sentenced Maksim Zharau to 24 months of restricted freedom with a referral to an open-type penal facility.

From June 2021, he served his sentence in open-type penal facility #49 in Škloŭ, Mahilioŭ region.

In early June 2023, the political prisoner was released after serving his sentence in full.
