Maryia Yashchanka was detained on October 10, 2022. At first, the pro-government Telegram channels reported Maria and her boyfriend to have been detained for leaking law enforcement officials' data to the Black Book of Belarus Telegram channel. Yashchanka was sentenced to 14 days of administrative imprisonment.

After the administrative imprisonment, Yashchanka's status was changed to a suspect in a criminal case on 'active participation in group actions that grossly violate public order' (Article 342 of the Criminal Code). Later she was charged and remanded to a pre-trial detention center.
