Ryhor Hunko is one of many protesters detained in Pinsk following the events of August 9. Hunko was detained on August 10 and taken into custody. He was charged under Part 2 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code (participation in mass riots).

On April 30, 2021, Judge Yauhen Brehan of the Maskoŭski District Court of Brest sentenced the defendant to 6 years in a medium-security penal colony.

On February 12, 2024, the Viciebsk District Court scheduled a hearing on "transfer to a different type of correctional institution and change of regime conditions". 

In February 2024 he was transferred to Mahiliou Prison No. 4.
