Aliaksei Hameza was detained on October 1, 2021, and his apartment was searched.

Hameza was charged with four articles of the Criminal Code:

Art. 361 of the Criminal Code — Calls for actions aimed at causing harm to the national security of the Republic of Belarus
Art. 130 of the Criminal Code — Incitement to hatred
Art. 290-4 of the Criminal Code — Establishing or participating in an organization for the purpose of terrorist activity
Art. 359 of the Criminal Code — Terrorist act against a state official or public figure

On May 13, 2022, the KGB put Alexei on the list of persons involved in terrorist activities.

On June 6, 2022, the trial began in the Minsk Municipal Court. On September 28, Judge Anastasiya Papko sentenced Hameza to 14.5 years in a medium-security penal colony and ordered a fine of 16,000 Belarusian rubles ($6,300).

The political prisoner was transferred to Babruisk penal colony No. 2 in March 2023.

Immediately after his transfer to the colony, the political prisoner was placed in SHIZO instead of quarantine for 36 days.

On June 9, 2023 it became known that Aliaksei had been placed in a punishment cell (PKT). According to human rights activists, on June 15, 2023, a trial was held to change the prison security level and conditions of Aliaksei's imprisonment. Judge Pavel Kartynin decided to transfer Hameza to Mahiliou prison for three years.

At the end of June 2023 the political prisoner was transferred to Prison No. 4.

It is known that in the late autumn of 2023 the political prisoner was placed in SHIZO for 5 days.
