Vilen Turhunau is a former policeman.
The reason for his arrest was his comments on the Internet, including negative comments about the police.
The man is charged under three articles of the Criminal Code: Part 3 of Article 361 (calls for sanctions, other actions aimed at harming the national security of the Republic of Belarus), Part 1 of Article 130 (incitement to other social hatred) and Part 2 of Article 367 (Slander against the President of the Republic of Belarus). The trial began on August 6, 2024 in the Homieĺ Regional Court. The closed-door trial is presided over by Judge Aleh Kharoshka.
